Fitness Friday: Healthy Sweet Treats

Ron Krit
Healthy Sweet Treats

I’ll admit it: I love sweets! From chocolate chip cookies to decadent brownies, I can't resist the delicious combo of sugar, butter, and salt. But let’s be real—they’re not exactly the healthiest options. Luckily, I’ve found a few recipes that satisfy my cravings without all the bad stuff. If you're allergic to peanuts, these might not be for you, but otherwise, trust me, they’re way better than any candy bar you’ll find. Let me know if you enjoy the healthy treats!

Chocolate Chip Blender Muffins make these every week—sometimes I get creative and toss in zucchini or swap some of the flour for cocoa powder to make them chocolate chocolate chip. They’re a hit every time!

Yields: 18 small muffins or 12 large ones

Ingredients:

  • 4 ripe bananas

  • 2 TBSP Olive Oil

  • 1 TBSP Vanilla Extract

  • ¼ Cup Maple Syrup

  • ¾ Cup Greek Yogurt

  • ½ Cup Peanut Butter

  • 1 TBSP PB2 (optional, adds extra protein)

  • 2 Eggs

  • 1 ½ Cups Flour

  • 1 ½ TSP Baking Soda

  • ¼ TSP Cinnamon

  • 1 Cup Dark Chocolate Chips (or a mix of dark and milk chocolate bar pieces)

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.

  2. Blend the bananas, olive oil, vanilla, maple syrup, yogurt, peanut butter, PB2, and eggs.

  3. Add the flour, baking soda, and cinnamon to the blender. Blend until smooth.

  4. Stir in the chocolate chips.

  5. Bake for 15-20 minutes (I do 17 minutes at 350°F). Let them cool, then enjoy!

  6. Store in an airtight container for 3 days then toss them in the fridge.

Peanut Butter Balls

These have been a fridge staple for years. They’re packed with protein, and my family loves them with chocolate chips and crunchy peanut butter. Plus, they’re gluten-free!

Ingredients:

  • 26 oz jar of natural peanut butter

  • ½ Cup Honey

  • 1 TBSP Chia Seeds

  • ¾ Cup Rolled Oats

  • 1-2 Cups Dark Chocolate Chips (measured with love)

  • ½ TSP Cinnamon

Directions:

  1. Mix all ingredients together using a KitchenAid mixer with the paddle attachment or a big spoon.

  2. Shape the mixture into balls (about the size of a medium egg).

  3. Place in the fridge and enjoy whenever you want!

Peanut Butter Crisp Bars

These are like a healthy Butterfinger bar—easy to make and perfect for storing in the freezer. Another bonus: gluten-free!

Ingredients:

  • 4 Cups Corn Cereal

  • ¼ Cup Honey

  • 1 Cup Peanut Butter

  • 1 Cup Dark Chocolate Chips

  • 1 TBSP Olive Oil (or any oil you prefer)

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine corn cereal, honey, and peanut butter. Mash it all up until the cereal breaks down into fine dust/powder.

  2. Press the mixture into an 8x8 pan lined with parchment paper.

  3. Microwave the chocolate chips and olive oil in 25-second intervals in a microwave safe glass stirring between each break, until smooth. (Be careful not to burn your hands, container gets hot). You can also use your stovetop. A double broiler works well.

  4. Pour the melted chocolate over the peanut butter mixture and spread evenly with a spatula.

  5. Freeze for 30 minutes. Once set, slice into bars and store in the freezer or fridge.

A Healthier Sweet Fix

With these recipes, you can indulge your sweet tooth without the guilt! Enjoy your treats and feel good about them. Keep it balanced and remember, it’s not about perfection—it’s about making healthier choices you enjoy. Have a happy Fitness Friday!
