Fitness Friday: Eat G.A.N.G.S.T.E.R.

First off, can you think of a better name for a company than Eat Gangster? That’s not why I reached out to Kerry, but it was definitely a plus.

Kerry and I go way back. We met years ago through my friend Brooke. They both worked for Lululemon, and during my time living in the city, I led several classes at different stores. Fast forward many years, and I’m reading about this company that sells mixes for your favorite treats, minus all the common allergens. It caught my eye, and I just had to learn more.

I was glued to my phone, listening to Kerry share the story of her company’s origin. “My twin sister suddenly had crippling anxiety. It came out of nowhere—this was a strong and confident person. Before jumping into prescription medication, she tried an anti-inflammatory diet.” For those unfamiliar, anti-inflammatory diets typically eliminate common allergens such as:

  1. Grains

  2. Artificial additives

  3. Nightshades

  4. Gluten

  5. Soy

  6. Tree nuts and peanuts

  7. Eggs

  8. Dairy

Coincidentally, these are also the foods Tom Brady avoids (so maybe he’s onto something). Kerry explained, “It takes a while for these foods to get out of your system. However, within two weeks, all the issues were gone.”

Listening to Kerry, I was shocked. I’ve known many people who tried elimination diets, usually to pinpoint allergies, but I had never heard of such drastic results. Kerry continued, “The results were eye-opening. I had been dealing with arthritis, type 1 diabetes, and thyroid issues. The joint pain was so bad that normal activities were getting hard, and I thought maybe this diet could help me.”

Kerry’s story was even more personal. She’d been a Division I athlete and an active person all her life. Exercise was part of her identity. Dealing with chronic pain was depressing. Then came the turning point. Kerry said, “I tried the diet. After years of waking up in pain, it all melted away. I couldn’t believe it. And the mental clarity? Amazing. I wanted to keep this feeling but still enjoy treats!”

At the time, Kerry had transitioned from working in athleisure wear to running a high-end hotel for dogs in NYC. This was no ordinary dog daycare. From celebrity clients to wealthy pet owners, the business had taken off. The facility even included a doggy gym, complete with a treadmill, and a chef for the pets. Kerry shared, “It was fast-paced, fun, successful, and stressful. When the business sold to private equity, I was ready for something new.”

Fueled by her health transformation, Kerry wanted to share her journey with others—especially parents of kids who have food allergies but still want to enjoy treats without the junk. She knew there was a way to make this happen. Partnering with Heather McDonough, a nutritionist, eat G.A.N.G.S.T.E.R. was born.

After learning about Kerry’s journey, I couldn’t wait to write about her. But first, she told me, “You have to try the food. And be honest.”

A few days later, a cookie and brownie mix arrived at my door. I decided to try the brownie mix first. I’ll be honest, I expected it to be gross. When I bake brownies, I go all out with condensed milk, sugar, butter—all the things that make them taste amazing but far from healthy. To my surprise, these Gangster brownies were good! They weren’t as sweet as my usual batch, but they had great flavor. Next time, I’ll add some peanut butter for extra protein (and because I love peanut butter), but her mixes come with easy-to-follow instructions and deliver on taste.

If you’re on an anti-inflammatory diet or have food allergies or sensitivities, Eat Gangster is a must-try. Here’s their website: https://eatgangster.com/

Kerry’s story is a testament to resilience, innovation, and the power of prioritizing health. Whether you’re looking for allergen-friendly treats or simply curious about making dietary changes, check out Eat Gangster. You won’t regret it!
